Lost Cases
Ongoing illustration series of important British architecture landmarks that are either fighting for survival or already lost their battle to be listed and protected.
Milton Gate – partial demolition and significant rebuilding will leave very little of the ‘Glass castle’. Wonderful mix of Pomo and Hi-tech architecture. Also one of Denys Lasdun’s last buildings. Listen to Open City podcast about it.
Minster Court – fading into the redevelopment mist. It’ll come back as a shadow of itself – defanged, bland and more marketable. If we don’t look after our 80s/90s Pomo heritage, we might wake up one day to a city missing this important layer. Listen to John Grindrod and Philip Downer talk about it.
Hauer King House in Islington by Jan Kaplicky and Amanda Levete of Future Systems.
The Wolverhampton School of Art – currently under threat of demolition. Locals started a petition and C20 submitted application to have the building listed. Read more.
